Analyse Music Video

Rabbit Heart by Florence & The Machine.

The Mis-En-Scene in this music video is quite powerful with beautiful costumes, flow as the people dance around, and the make up it not too much as the whole video has a feeling of a secret garden where people are happy, and the video opens close up with a sequin, lace veil between Florence and the camera.
Some of the costumes, especially Florence's dont really make a statement, but other characters in the videos wear top hats.
As for props they use flower baskets and people twirling fabric around as well as feeding each other grapes and a big banquet which brings they feeling of royalty.
The lighting in this music video is also really bright which gives it a feeling of being in a dream.

For cinematography they used a number of shots to portray the world the characters are in with shots like close us of her face, while she sings as well as when she is in the coffin, and close ups of the man playing the harp. There are also long shots of people dancing and them at the table.

The editing contains a lot of shots over each other with transparency, which looks pretty and is more entertaining to look at, as well as warm colors in it, which make it look very dream-like and comfortable, the editing gets a lot more fast paced towards the end of the song, and there are more cuts during the chorus.

In general there isn't a very big relationship between the the lyrics and the visuals, although the music matches the visuals it is quite a bright feel-good song and that is portrayed by the music video.

In this music videos Florence and the machine are represented as a kind of "different" but still mainstream band, the other band members aren't shown in the video so there is a element of mystery and people wonder if it is just Florence Welch or are there others.
They are an indie band who are portrayed as sort of surreal, and the theme is coherent throughout their other music videos.

I think that Florence is not sexualized in this music video at all, it doesn't have much to do with looking sexy but to instead take the audience out of reality.

I do. however think this music video reminds me a little of Alice in Wonderland, and the idea of another reality in which people eat in vast gardens and dance around.
And this music video is mostly narrative based and concept based.

This music video, I think promotes the band very well, and it looks good.
I would say that for the audience Florence and the Machine aims for being an indie band it is quite well done and the mise en scene looks good, which is something that people always look at.
